MORE VIDEOS? I appreciate that so many people have asked for more videos but I have no immediate plans to make more, for several reasons.
    • I’m supposed to be retired!
    • I don’t have a staff - It’s just me.
    • It was just a hobby and I wasn’t prepared for this many views.
    • I can’t answer all the questions and then I feel bad for not helping.
    • Now I feel bad for not making more!

Thank you for all the love and appreciation. I will try to find time to make more but it won’t be for a while. Many questions are answered in my website FAQs and I continue to post new recipes there. www.JennyCanCook.com - always free/no ads. Love you guys!

It's called the vein of the leaf not rib. Also my mother made a similar recipe but cooked it in a pressure cooker. Now I don't like the baked ones.

lovely recipe and video :) I have a few of questions.

Is the rice cooked or uncooked?

Can I use short grain rice?

Can we freeze them after preparing or is it better to freeze after baking?

These can be in right out of the oven correct? Or do I need to refry in a bit of oil?

It was uncooked rice. I think you can freeze either way.

in truth sticks of "real" butter is far more healthy and far less cancer'ist then most oil, if u use oil best ones to use is ether coconut or avocado while i hate using oil anyway for frying..

Olive is more or less for salads and dressings. For a nice crisp touch to meat or veggies, I love grape seed oil or vegetable.

I really do appreciate your honouring your dad by giving us his recommendations as well. I am "old country" - my Polish side came to Western New York and raised pigs - so we ate lots of lard and you probably get the picture. Nothing like a chunk of cold salted pig fat on weck! YUM! Anyway, the nonsmokers are all living into their mid-90's! Go figure. "Bet your sweet 'dupa'"! HAHA!!! Great video, Miss Jenny. Thank you again for including your dad's ingredients for posterity's sake. My wife is Mexican, and my parents-in-law lived for a few years in Cleveland, Ohio, and they had very fond memories of the Polish as being very cultured and loving to be with "family"! Godspeed!

She said DUPA!!!! I have two tips. 1) Use a long skinny carving fork to remove the cabbage from the water. It makes a nice handle, just shove it down into the middle of the core. 2) Boil the cabbage with the carving fork already in it and peel the leaves off as they soften. This will ensure you don't end up with undercooked inner leaves or leaves that you have to cut from the core. Just periodically remove a couple of leaves as you're preparing other stuff. Because we all know eastern European cooks are never only making ONE thing!

The variations in my recipe, which might be more Ukranian or influenced by Italians in my family line, are to use half beef/half pork, sautee the onions in bacon drippings, leave out the mushrooms and tomato sauce from the filling, and then use pureed (usually stewed) tomatoes as the liquid in which it all cooks. We cook in a large pot whose bottom is lined with the extra cabbage leaves. Another variation is to make the filling into meatballs and fill the pot with alternating layers of chopped cabbage and meatballs- then use a ladle to scoop out as much as you want. Not as pretty, but hits the spot just the same.

                                                                            • Alfreda Porter-Ousley

                                                                              • Debbie Sunshine Tomko
Debbie Sunshine Tomko  6 days back

My family made this for years. Their recipe used tomato soup. The secret was to take the uncooked rice, put in saucepan with one cup soup for every cup of rice you use. Stir on low heat, continuously for about 15 mins., until soup sticks to rice. Do not scrap bottom if rice sticks to pan. Let cool, add to lean ground beef, onion, one egg. Roll. Put left over cooked cabbage leaves on bottom of large pot then place cabbage rolls tightly into round pot, layering it. Cover with two cans of tomato soup, then water just to cover rolls, add one cap full of vinegar, cover slightly, and cook on low heat . Takes about 4 1/2 hours...but fasts so great!!!

                                                                                • Maribel Medina
