Well following team orders definitely do not make any driver comfortable at all. Racers race, teammates are a team with their crews, but everyone is on their own once the race starts. It was very obvious that Vettel completely disobeyed for a understandable reason, to not have the same fate with team orders and claiming the win himself. Barricello I think but I don’t know how you say his last name gave his win in Austria to Michael Schumacher years ago all because of following team orders. The excitement would be lost and pointless if Vettel had not passed Mark Webber. But hey that’s just how I think it is because it’s racing nowadays and it’s just my opinion.

Webber should have ran him off the road. You don't win championships without being ruthless, just watch Senna, Prost and Schumacher.

I don’t watch formula 1 often p, but why is this a big deal. If Vettel is faster why would he just stay behind Weber? Was this a championship thing?

@troy baker so this was the second race of the year, and cars need to use the same engine for 6 races in a row or they get grid penalties so they have to save the en
engine during some races and with red bull having a comfortable position 1 and 2 nobody else in the race could catch them the car in 3rd had already gotten the order from his team to turn the engine down so they were safe to do it in this race, also they dont want team mates fighting and taking each other out.

also webber had newer tyres then vettel

comeatme Bro thank you for your explanation. didn’t know you could turn an engine down. It’s very weird to me to say that however. Hey Webber is going to win, so go slower. Who knows what can happen in a race. I probably would’ve done what vettel did, but I’m not experienced in why that’s a rational in F1. I’d say if he doesn’t have the tires and I do. Sucks to be you. Like the Hungary race this year.

both drivers got asked to save fuel tyres and the engine, so webber turned his engine power down as instructed by the team and vettel did not so vettels car had more engine power then webbers hence the speed difference, in the teams eyes webber had already "won" the race so they issued the multi 21 order (21 because webber was car no.2 and vettel was car no.1) basically they were saying without the order to turn the engine down webber would have won, to put it into perspective webber started the race 5th on the grid and vetter started 1st but webber was in 1st when the multi 21 order come over the radio and vettel was in 2nd so webber actually had the pace to win the race.

one of the reasons it also pissed a lot of people off was in the past every time webber had a multi 12 order( car 1 stays ahead of car 2) he obeyed it but when vettel got a multi 21 order he just ignored it.

Thing is that he had a solid lead when he was told the race was off. He could have defended the lead, but Seb got right on his tail for free. That isn't racing when one driver doesn't know he is racing.

BOTTOMLINE, as a rule in handling team drivers, once the race starts, its the best car and driver to the front. Team members especially. I will NEVER be told to stop fighting for the win. In the end, you can shove that constructor title crap,....the fans ONLY remember the CHAMPION DRIVER. The one with the better car should always quest for the front and 1st Place.

put it into perspective though, webber come from 5th to 1st, vettel went from 1st to 2nd and then both drivers got told to turn the engine power down, save fuel and tyres webber turned his engine down and vettel did not hence the speed difference, the team was basically telling vetter that with equal engine power webber was faster and in there eyes he had already "won" the race since he was generally faster over the the full race, but with his engine turned down vs a full powered vettel engine he didnt have the pace.

webber was basically stripped from a win because he turned his engine down had he known vettel would ignore the order he would have probably just kept it at full power and won the race. it was the 2nd race of the year and cars need to have the same engine for 6 races in a row or they get grid penalties so with both cars in position 1 and 2 it was the smart thing for the team to do. it wasnt a constructor thing it was just a measure to save the engine for future races.

@jappa B webber was faster during the race and was in net first after his last pitstop, after the last pitstops both redbull cars were in a comfortable 1,2 position and hamilton in 3rd had been asked by his team to save his engine, so they asked both drivers to turn the engines down to save them for future races webber turned his down as asked and vettel did not hence the speed difference, had both drivers had full engine power webber would have won the race hence the multi 21 order

F1 is also a teamsport, theyre also trying to win the constructors championship. But in this situation im not sure a order was appropriate , Vettel was stronger the whole weekend. You can only blame the team for this

What a sport! People get mad when a faster car overtakes. Then you ask people why team orders should be obeyed and the answer is because they are team orders. Usually team orders are that you let the faster car pass or that defend the title contenders position. Neither of these applied to Webber. Good that these days we have a joyful Aussie and not this cry baby.
